what is therapy?
Picture
Psychotherapy is a form of treatment that addresses psychological, social and emotional difficulties. There are many different types of psychotherapy, but in general it is a collaborative process where we will work together to improve self-awareness and make meaningful changes that are aligned with your values and move you towards the life you want to lead.  Check out my About and Services pages to learn more about my education, training and therapeutic approach.

Here's what you can expect...
  • Sessions are 50-minutes. The remaining 10 minutes of the hour is for documentation. Session summary notes are requirement as part of your health record.
  • The frequency of sessions is suited to your needs, but typically are scheduled
    every 1 or 2 weeks.

  • In the first few sessions we will discuss your concerns, personal history, goals, strengths and what matters most to you. Together we will develop a plan of action and subsequent sessions will be focused on working together towards your goals.
  • You will be encouraged to practice strategies and reflect on challenges and successes in between sessions.
  • The number of sessions we have together will depend on your goals, availability, motivation etc. We will discuss this in the first few sessions.
Will Therapy Help me?
Picture
It's completely natural to have doubts and fears about starting psychotherapy.

We all go through struggles and we can all benefit from help at some point in our lives. It can be beneficial to connect with a therapist for guidance, especially when support from family or friends is not enough.

The strength of our therapeutic relationship is most important. We will need to work as a team to get you where you want to be. My role is to use my knowledge, skill and presence to guide the process and create a safe environment that will facilitate change. Your role is to be present, open to new ideas and willing to try new things.

Therapy can be incredibly rewarding and fulfilling, but it can also be uncomfortable and hard work at times.

Here are some questions to ask yourself:
  • Am I willing to talk about myself and my difficulties?
  • Am I open to considering new ideas and suggestions?
  • Am I motivated and ready to make changes?
  • Am I able to commit to regular sessions and practice new skills in-between sessions?

If you answered 'yes' to the above questions, you will likely find therapy to be helpful. Let's get started!
