WHAT iS PSYCHOTHERAPY?

Picture
Psychotherapy is a form of treatment that addresses psychological, social and emotional difficulties. There are many different types of psychotherapy, but in general it is a collaborative process where we will work together to gain greater understanding into your difficulties and strengths, and make changes that improve your mental health and quality of life. Assessment & Treatment Planning
  • This occurs within the first few sessions. We will discuss your current concerns, personal history, and goals.
  • Together, we will develop a treatment plan based on your unique needs.
  • Subsequent sessions will be focused on working together to achieve your goals.

General Psychotherapy Process
  • Sessions are 50-minutes in length. The remaining 10 minutes is for documentation. Session summary notes are requirement as part of your health record.
  • The frequency of sessions is suited to your needs, but typically are scheduled
    every 1 or 2 weeks.
  • To support you in achieving your goals we will often come up with a plan of action, or 'homework', for you to work on in between sessions.
  • The number of sessions we have together will depend on many things (e.g. your goals, availability, motivation etc.). We will discuss this when we develop your treatment plan.

HOW DO i KNOW IF YOU, OR PSYCHOTHERAPY, CAN HELP me?

Picture
I strongly believe that we can all benefit from psychotherapy at some point in our lives.

There are many things that will determine success of therapy, however the strength of our therapeutic relationship is most important. As such, I always strive to create an environment that is safe, and invites you to be yourself and speak openly about your struggles and your successes. However, therapy will also require you to be engaged in the process.

Here are some questions to ask yourself:
  • Am I motivated and ready to make changes?
  • Am I willing to self-reflect and talk about my difficulties?
  • Am I open to considering new ideas and suggestions?
  • Am I able to commit to regular sessions and practice new skills in-between sessions?

If you answered 'yes' to the above questions, you're ready to take the next step and will likely find therapy to be helpful- yay!

If you answered 'no' to the above questions, that's ok! It could still be helpful to complete a consultation with me to discuss what options might be available to you.
